Adoption boards are very similar, or the same as, discussion boards, lists, groups, or forums. They all serve the same purpose of allowing people with common situations, problems, circumstances, etc. carry on discussions with one another on-line. This way, each member remains anonymous, to a certain extent, and is allowed to reveal as little or much as he or she chooses to during the length of one's membership.
Adoption boards are usually free of charge, requiring little other than registration and consideration for other on the board. Without registering on a board, you are unable to share your thoughts and ideas, although, you are often able to read comments made by others.
Many members of the adoption community view boards, discussion groups, etc as places people who have been touched by adoption can go and feel like they belong. The topics they choose to discuss may be applicable and/or familiar to other members, and even in cases where they are not, the support they receive is incredible. Birth mothers meet and become acquainted with other birth mothers, with whom they can share their stories and experiences. Adoptees and adoptive parents also gain this sense of camaraderie.
A site such as Forums.Adoption.com has several different discussion groups one could join. Below are just a few of them.
